What is Holistic Nutrition?

Holistic Nutrition sees the mind, body and spirit as a whole.

The human body is constantly trying to maintain homoeostasis/balance, and if it’s not getting all the nutrients and minerals it needs, then it cannot function proficiently and an imbalance may occur.

When the body is left in this state for too long then disease may follow. Everything is connected and affected, therefore each body system is linked and nothing is overlooked.

How Holistic Nutrition Plays a Key Role in The Compassionate Home:

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that “the kitchen is the heart of the home”…

I couldn’t agree more. What we choose to feed ourselves and our families on a daily basis dramatically affects the quality of our health and emotional/mental wellbeing.

Feed the kids too much sugar, carbohydrates, and processed foods and you’ll surely see tantrums at the least–or food allergies, obesity, and major health problems at the worst.

To help prevent illness, food allergies, and unnecessary emotional outbursts, every recipe we feature here on The Compassionate Home is based on a plant based, whole foods approach to eating.

Throughout my own personal transformation and Compassionate Home Renovation, the food I chose to eat played an essential role in my ability to gain greater mental clarity, emotional balance, and enough energy to pursue the changes that were necessary for my survival.
Having a Holistic Nutritionist available to help guide me through this process helped a lot. And while I’ll be sharing all the knowledge I’ve learned in this field along with several whole food, plant based recipes, you may decide you’d like additional support, too.

What exactly does a Holistic Nutritionist Do?

A Holistic Nutritionist doesn’t ”cure” the symptoms (the symptoms are not the problem it is just a way for the body to let you know that there is something wrong) rather they look for the causes which have lead to the present condition and work on creating a balance where an imbalance is present.

Through live, natural, good quality foods the body is able to do its job to get back into homoeostasis, and symptoms will disappear when the root cause of the problem is fixed.

Food is also used as a means to prevent disease and ensure the body is receiving enough nutrients in order to stay healthy.

Holistic Nutrition is based on the age old philosophy of Hippocrates (460-377 BC) the founding father of natural medicine:

”Let food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food”

Through a combination of a diet rich in natural whole foods, supplementation, and lifestyle changes optimum health is possible.
